Instruments overview
The general purposes 25 tone Universal Testing Machine (UTM) could handle the static and quisie-static evaluation of solid materials and a 2000 Joule Dropping weight apparatus equipped by high resolution accelerometers and 256 KHz data logger provides a robust capability to test the systems under low to moderate loading rates. For material assessment in higher loading rates, a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) which enjoys a 1 MHz data logger would examine specimens’ behavior with maximum of 900 Mpa yield stress. Moreover, advanced structures and armors could be tested under high and very high velocity impacts in one stage air and two stage black-powder gas guns with projectiles with speeds up to 1200 (m/s). Projectile velocities could be measured by initial and residual velocity sensors.
